Twin Lake Carp Management Project (2016-2017)
Shingle Creek Watershed Management Commissions
The three interconnected basins of Twin Lake - Upper, Middle, and Lower - and the downstream Ryan Lake were the focus of study and improvement for several years by the Commission and the cities of Brooklyn Center, Crystal, Robbinsdale, and Minneapolis. Click HERE for more info.
Joslyn Superfund Site
MN Dept. of Health
The Joslyn Manufacturing and Supply Company Superfund site is an area of about 30 acres located on the east side of Middle Twin Lake. The earthwork remediation is now complete and although it is privately-owned property, the MPCA requires the Site to remain a natural area. Click HERE for more info.
Lake Health
A healthy lake is one that is near its natural state. Water entering the lake has low levels of pollution. A healthy lake is protected by a natural shoreline and by investments in careful stewardship of the lake and its watershed (lakeshed).
DNR Health Score:
The Lake Health Score is an average of the Water Quality, Biology, and Hydrology Lake Health Component Scores and is on a 0 to 100 scale. Details about the scores, the process and how they are used can be found on the DNR Website.
About Lake Basics:
The DNR typically uses a depth of 15-ft as the extent of the littoral zone. The littoral zone is the near shore area where sunlight penetrates all the way to the sediment and allows aquatic plants to grow. The actual depth to which plant growth occurs will vary depending upon the clarity of the water. The lakeshed acreage is the total area of land that drains to a lake.

THE BOOM IS IN!!
On Upper Twin Lake, North end, on the West side…. we have a channel that brings in Duckweed and other debris, into our beautiful lake. Our fearless President, Chuck Kendall, was able to get us a FREE yellow boom to stop the duckweed and other debris from entering our lake. Two wonderful lake volunteers, Peter and Tim, installed the yellow boom and it's doing a great job of keeping the Duck Pond weed from floating across and covering our lake and shoreline.
